Striim Expands Cloud Support, Bolsters Manageability and Diagnostics, and Introduces New Ease of Use Features to Speed Customers’ Cloud Adoption

Striim Version 3.10.1 Includes Expanded Support for Cloud Targets, Including Snowflake Partner Connect, and
Google BigQuery Streaming API, Now Includes Schema Conversion and End-To-End Lag Monitoring,
and Simplifies Working with Complex Data

PALO ALTO, CA – July 10, 2020 – Striim, provider of an enterprise-grade platform for streaming cloud migration and cloud integration solutions, has introduced a broad set of enhancements to its on-premise and cloud marketplace offerings that adds additional cloud targets, provides more detailed visibility into on-going data movement, further enhances ease-of-use, and ensures on-going support for major enterprise data sources.

Key Features released in Striim 3.10.1 are directly available through Snowflake Partner Connect to enable rapid movement of enterprise data into Snowflake. Striim 3.10.1. also introduces support for the Google BigQuery Streaming API, optimizes integrating real-time change data into Snowflake and Azure Synapse, and adds support for Parquet in Cloud Data-Lake solutions.

“In today’s challenging business environment, cloud adoption initiatives have become the number one priority for many organizations looking to optimize their operations, enhance their customers’ online experience, and gain the real-time insights required for digital transformations,” said Alok Pareek, founder and EVP of Products at Striim. “With this release, Striim further simplifies this process through our dedicated support for technologies required by customers undertaking online cloud migrations and investing in cloud analytics.”

Striim on Snowflake Partner Connect

From Snowflake Partner Connect, customers can launch a trial Striim Cloud instance directly as part of the Snowflake on-boarding process from the Snowflake UI and load data, optionally with change data capture, directly into Snowflake from any of our supported sources.

Expanded Support for Cloud Targets to Further Enhance Cloud Adoptions

The Striim platform has been chosen as a standard for our customers’ cloud adoption use-cases partly because of the wide range of cloud targets it supports. Striim provides integration with databases, data warehouses, storage, messaging systems and other technologies across all three major cloud environments. To further enhance this key capability, the following features have been added in the 3.10.1 release:

  • Support for the Google BigQuery Streaming API, enabling real-time analytics in BigQuery on large scale data within seconds, as well as helping with quota issues than can be faced by high volume customers
  • Optimized delivery to Snowflake and Azure Synapse that facilitates compacting multiple operations on the same data to a single operation on the target resulting in much lower change volume
  • Delivery to MongoDB cloud and Mongo DB API for Azure Cosmos DB
  • Delivery to Apache Cassandra, DataStax Cassandra, and Cassandra API for Azure Cosmos DB
  • Support for delivery of data in Parquet format to Cloud Storage and Cloud Data Lakes to further support cloud analytics environments

Schema Conversion to Simplify Cloud Adoption Workflows

As part of many cloud migration or cloud integration use-cases, especially during the initial phases, developers often need to create target schemas to match those of source data. Striim adds the capability to use source schema information from popular databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL and create appropriate target schema in cloud targets such as Google BigQuery, Snowflake and others. Importantly, these conversions understand datatype and structure differences between heterogeneous sources and targets and act intelligently to spot problems and inconsistencies before progressing to data movement.

Enhanced Monitoring, Alerting and Diagnostics

On-going data movement between on-premise and cloud environments for migrations, or powering reporting and analytics solutions, are often part of an enterprise’s critical applications. As such they demand deep insights into the status of all active data flows. Striim 3.10.1 adds the capability to inherently monitor data from its creation in the source to successful delivery in a target, generate detailed lag reports, and alert on situations where lag is outside of SLAs. In addition, this release provides detailed status on checkpointing information for recovery and high availability scenarios, with insight into checkpointing history and currency.

Simplifies Working with Complex Data

As customers work with heterogeneous environments and adopt more complex integration scenarios, they often have to work with complex data types, or perform necessary data conversions. While always possible through user defined functions, this release adds multiple commonly requested data manipulation functions out of the box. This simplifies working with JSON data and document structures, while also facilitating data cleansing, and regular expression operations.

On-Going Support for Enterprise Sources

As customers upgrade their environments, or adopt new technologies, it is essential that their integration platform keeps pace. In Striim 3.10.1 we extend our support for the Oracle database to include Oracle 19c, including change data capture, add support for schema information and metadata for Oracle GoldenGate trails, and certify our support for Hive 3.1.0

Striim Security Enhancements

Striim Bolsters Cloud Security, Adds Advanced Partitioning and New Data Pipeline Manageability Features for Streaming Data Integration to the Cloud

Striim Version 3.9.8 Includes Valuable Cloud Security Enhancements Including KeyStore Support, Stronger Password Security, and Multi-Layered Application Security, and Secure File Encryption when Loading Files to Cloud Storage

PALO ALTO, CA – March 10, 2020 – Striim, provider of an enterprise-grade platform for streaming data integration to the cloud, has introduced a broad set of enhancements to its on-prem-to-cloud data integration offerings that strengthen platform and data security, improve data accountability, speed application development, increase performance, and enable greater flexibility and extensibility.

Striim 3.9.8 introduces new security features for the cloud integration use cases that enable more fine-grained and robust use of passwords and encryption to provide end-to-end data protection, particularly in hybrid cloud environments.

Striim Security Enhancements

“Moving and deploying cloud-native applications is part of next generation digital transformation. More often than not, these new applications require data feeds from existing on-prem operational systems. As enterprises embrace their cloud strategy, they face challenges around data security, data accountability, scalability and real time data synchronization,” said Alok Pareek, founder and EVP of Products at Striim. “With this release, Striim is raising the bar on enabling world-class protection of data streaming at-scale, across both on-premises systems and cloud environments for digital transformation.”

More Robust End-to-End Security for Streaming Integration to the Cloud

Striim has been on a multi-year campaign to establish the Striim platform as the gold standard for security in continuous data integration to the cloud. This latest release introduces several significant data protection enhancements.

  • Striim KeyStore is a new secured repository for passwords and encryption keys that reduces vulnerability by centralizing the administration of encryption keys.
  • Algorithms for password encryption have been significantly strengthened.
  • Inter-node cluster communication is secured with stronger encryption algorithms.
  • Multi-layered application security now allows exported applications that contain passwords or other encrypted values to be protected with a second level of encryption.
  • Encryption for permanent files based on customer-provided keys is now available in the Striim FileWriter and for the intermediate temporary files using the Google Cloud Storage Writer.

Enhanced Data Accountability

Developers often need to retrieve events that have been discarded by the application for purposes such as replay, testing and auditing. Striim 3.9.8 introduces an application-specific exception store that can be used to store these discarded events.

Higher Performance and Scalability

The new release also introduces performance enhancements for customers using multiple server nodes in a cluster. Administrators have more flexible options than ever for distributing and processing large data volumes in streams or windows by specifying data and metadata for partitioning. This enables load-balancing to improve maximum write performance.

Striim 3.9.8 also now offers the ability to configure the number of parallel threads to be used for writing to a target system across a variety of popular database and data warehouse environments both on-premises and in the cloud.

Faster and Easier Development

Developers can also tap into a host of new user productivity enhancements.

Transformer for in-flight data enrichment enables streaming data to be enhanced without any manual coding using Striim’s drag-and-drop UI. For example, ZIP Code data can be automatically enriched with city and county name fields using real-time lookup. Developers also have the option to enrich data with lookups from external data stores using an in-memory cache.

The option to use sample data for continuous queries to reduce compute and storage requirements. Users can choose to use only a portion of streaming data to speed computation and see results more quickly, a feature that’s particularly useful in high-volume streaming scenarios.

Dynamic output names for write operations that enable such variables as data, metadata and user data fields to be automatically applied to files and objects in Microsoft Azure Data Lake Store Gen 1 and Gen 2, Azure Blob Storage, Azure File Storage, Google Cloud Storage, Apache HDFS and Amazon S3.

A simpler user experience speeds application development with new UI options for configuring complex adapter properties such as rollover policy, flush policy, and encryption policy.

Broader Extensibility

SAP HANA is now supported as a target for direct integration, enabling users of SAP’s transactional / analytical database to rapidly develop time-sensitive analytics applications. Expanded HTTP Reader capabilities allow custom responses to be sent back to the requestor and responses to be deferred until events reach a corresponding HTTP Writer. This enables users to build REST services using Striim.

Striim and Snowflake Announce Strategic Partnership to Accelerate Data-Driven Analytics in the Cloud

PALO ALTO, CA – April 16, 2019 Striim®, provider of an enterprise-grade platform for streaming data integration, today announced a strategic partnership with Snowflake, Inc., the data warehouse built for the cloud, to simplify and speed loading of real-time data to Snowflake, accelerating data-driven analytics in the cloud.

Striim’s real-time data integration capabilities provide Snowflake customers running in Microsoft Azure or AWS the benefit of a phased migration to Snowflake from existing on-premises or cloud-based data warehouses, databases, and other data sources. One such customer, Attentia, is using Striim and Snowflake on Azure to deliver real-time data, advanced analytics, and streamlined operations.

Joint customers such as Attentia benefit from the speed, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of Snowflake’s zero-management, cloud-built data warehouse. With Snowflake, analytics that used to take hours, or even days, can be delivered in minutes, and the data warehouse can scale up and down on-the-fly, without delay or disruption. Snowflake’s cloud-built architecture delivers a level of flexibility and efficiency that simply isn’t possible with a traditional data warehouse, or with a big data platform that has been shifted to the cloud.

“We are delighted to partner with Striim for their streaming ETL capabilities. With Striim, Snowflake customers can ingest a wide range of real-time data in a consumable format to feed rich analytics,”Snowflake’s Vice President of Alliances, Walter Aldana said. “Striim’s built-in scalability, security, and reliability bridges the adoption of Snowflake for time-sensitive, operational decision making.”

For continuous data loading to Snowflake, Striim powers ingestion of real-time data from major enterprise databases using low-impact change data capture (CDC). As an enterprise-grade platform, Striim supports extremely large data volumes with built-in security and reliability. In addition, Striim’s in-flight processing, denormalization, and transformations further help Snowflake customers speed time-to-analysis by feeding data continuously to Snowflake in the right format.

“Striim and Snowflake share a mission to enable every organization to be data-driven. However, to be data-driven, companies must first gain access to the data by building the real-time data pipelines that can continuously feed their analytics and reporting,” said Alok Pareek, co-founder and EVP of Products at Striim. “By making it easy to build streaming data pipelines to load real-time data to Snowflake, Snowflake customers can more quickly enable their modern data management, data warehousing, and data analytics initiatives. We are thrilled to be a strategic partner with Snowflake in this effort.”

Attentia, an innovative company in Belgium offering HR and Well-being solutions, was looking for a zero-maintenance solution to enable streaming data integration that is both near-real-time and scalable, and also provides a secure data warehouse including analytical capabilities.

“By streaming enterprise data to Snowflake with built-in scalability, security, and reliability, Striim and Snowflake gave us the right answer to our challenge,” said Davy Vande Cappelle, head of architecture at Attentia. “To make our implementation even easier, the pay-per-use model allowed us to do this in the most affordable way.”

Striim makes it easy to load data to Snowflake from data warehouses (including Oracle Exadata, Teradata, Amazon Redshift, Netezza), databases (including Oracle, SQL Server, HPE NonStop, MongoDB, Amazon RDS, PostgreSQL, MySQL), log files from security devices and other systems, sensors, messaging systems, and Hadoop solutions. Striim + Google Cloud Database Migration Service

Striim Announces Partnership with Google Cloud to Offer Database Migration Service

Striim Solution to Accelerate Scalable Database Adoption on Google Cloud Platform

PALO ALTO, CA – April 9, 2019 Striim®, provider of an enterprise-grade platform for streaming data integration with intelligence, announced today that it has entered into a partnership with Google Cloud to offer a database migration service to facilitate moving data into databases running on Google Cloud Platform. This migration service simplifies database migrations by enabling streaming data pipelines from multiple open source and commercial databases –including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL – to cloud databases – including Google Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL and MySQL, as well as Google Cloud Spanner.

There is significant demand for database migrations to the cloud as shifting workloads to the cloud becomes a core requirement for next-generation data initiatives. Particularly for databases supporting mission-critical applications, avoiding downtime is a key requirement during migrations to minimize both risk and operational disruption. Striim’s migration data pipelines allow online migrations where mission-critical applications continue running without incurring downtime, while data is continuously replicated between on-premises and cloud databases.

Striim offers an enterprise-grade, real-time database migration service to streamline the movement of real-time data to Google Cloud databases. Launched today at Google Cloud Next ’19 in San Francisco, this service is now available for Google Cloud customers.

“Striim’s partnership with Google Cloud on migrations is already seeing strong demand, with current implementations across financial institutions, healthcare, and transportation sectors,” said Alok Pareek, Founder and EVP of Products for Striim. “With this offering, our aim is to make the availability and on-boarding of the migration server as easy as possible for Google Cloud customers. Striim’s expertise in mission-critical database replication and migrations with transactional consistency, and built-in recovery for failure handling, allow for zero-downtime migrations, phased migrations, and risk-free cutover to the cloud database post migration.”

“As organizations modernize their data infrastructure, migrating mission-critical databases is essential to ensure information is accessible, valuable, and actionable. We are partnering with Striim to support our customers with a smooth database migration journey to Google Cloud,” said Manvinder Singh, Head of Infrastructure Partnerships, Google Cloud. “Striim brings decades of expertise in enterprise-scale migrations to power this database migration service, and further drive adoption of GCP’s database services.”
