Introducing Striim Cloud Mission Critical

Striim Cloud Mission Critical is a new offering on Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure that provides a fully managed, highly available, resilient data streaming platform. It provides all the features of Striim Cloud Enterprise plus a multi-server architecture for higher performance, greater resiliency, and higher service level guarantees.

Advantages of Striim Cloud Mission Critical

Striim Cloud Mission Critical includes the following multi-server features that were previously available only in Striim Platform:

Striim Cloud Mission Critical also has the following advantages over Striim Cloud Enterprise and Striim Platform:

  • Forwarding Agents can connect securely to Striim Cloud Mission Critical using Google's Private Service Connect. Contact Striim support for more information.

  • A snapshot of the metadata repository will be taken every minute rather than once an hour as in Striim Cloud Enterprise. This means that in disaster recovery you may be able to recover your applications from a more recent checkpoint than you would in Striim Cloud Enterprise, reducing the amount of time it takes for your applications to come back online.

Striim Cloud Mission Critical includes the following features that are add-ons to Striim Cloud Enterprise:

Striim Cloud Mission Critical includes the following features that are not available in Striim Cloud Enterprise:

Striim Cloud Mission Critical Architecture

A Striim Cloud Mission Critical instance includes:

  • a Striim cluster consisting of two or more Striim servers, each running in its own virtual machine

  • a managed, high-availability, fault-tolerant metadata repository host

  • a managed, high-availability, fault-tolerant Kafka cluster to support persisted streams (see Kafka-persisted streams)

More details about these components:

  • A cluster has a minimum of two Striim servers. You can add additional servers, up to a maximum of five (see Adding servers to Striim Cloud Mission Critical). In the initial release, the servers will all be in the same availability zone. Adding servers is permanent, that is, the number cannot be reduced.

  • To match the requirements of your applications, you can resize the virtual machines (VMs) in your Striim cluster to increase or decrease the number of CPUs and amount of memory available (see Resizing Striim Cloud virtual machines). In this initial release, the VM choices are:

    VM type

    CPUs

    memory

    S

    8

    64 GB

    M

    16

    128 GB

    L

    32

    256 GB

    XL

    64

    512 GB

Upgrading to larger VMs will increase your costs, downgrading to smaller VMs will decrease your costs.

Migrating to Striim Cloud Mission Critical

To migrate from Striim Platform or Striim Cloud Enterprise:

  1. Export your applications from your existing Striim environment and import them to Striim Cloud Mission Critical (see EXPORT and Creating apps by importing TQL).

  2. Copy any keys or other files required by your applications from your existing Striim environment to Striim Cloud Mission Critical (see Manage Striim - Files).

  3. Load any open processors required by your applications (see Loading and unloading open processors).
