Understanding billing
Billing converts your metered Striim Credits into USD and applies tax, billing credits, and adjustments. The billing schedule and documents described here apply to subscriptions purchased directly from Striim and paid by credit card. For subscriptions purchased through AWS Marketplace, billing schedules and related documents are governed by AWS Marketplace terms.
Billing period
A billing period is one calendar month in UTC. It begins at 00:00:00 UTC on the first day of the month and continues until, but does not include, 00:00:00 UTC on the first day of the next month.
Usage recorded at 00:00:00 UTC on the first day of the next month belongs to the next billing period.
All billing dates and times are shown in UTC. Your service’s AWS region does not change the billing clock.
Billing during the free trial
During your 14-day trial period, your usage is metered but not charged. Your first Provisional Invoice is generated on the first day of the month following the end of your trial. For example, if your trial ends on July 23, your first Provisional Invoice is generated on August 1. It covers the July 1–31 billing period, but you are charged only for usage recorded from July 24 through July 31.
During the trial, you can monitor your usage on the Metering page in Striim Cloud Console. The page shows your accumulated Striim Credits, even though you are not charged for usage recorded during the trial period.
Converting usage into USD
For each usage line, Striim converts the consumed Striim Credits to a monetary charge at a rate of USD 1.00 per Striim Credit.
For example: 250 Striim Credits × USD 1.00 = USD 250.00 in usage charges
Your usage subtotal is the sum of the monetary charge lines. Applicable tax and any billing credits or adjustments determine the final amount charged.
Rounding
Each monetary charge line is rounded to the nearest cent. If the unrounded amount is exactly half a cent above a whole-cent amount, it is rounded up. For example, a calculated charge of USD 0.625 is rounded to USD 0.63.
Applicable taxes, billing credits, and adjustments are then applied to determine the final amount charged.
Monthly billing schedule
Striim bills your credit card for usage recorded during the current calendar month.
When | Document | What it means |
|---|---|---|
First day of the following month | Provisional Invoice | Shows the usage charges for the calendar month that just ended, estimated tax, and scheduled charge date. Payment has not yet been collected. |
Fifth day of the following month, after payment succeeds | Billing Statement | Shows confirmed tax, the amount paid, and payment details. |
For example, July usage appears in a Provisional Invoice on August 1. Striim charges the credit
Provisional Invoice
The Provisional Invoice shows Not charged yet and the scheduled charge date.
Usage charges are based on the completed billing period. Tax is shown as Estimated tax because the final tax amount has not yet been confirmed. The amount displayed on the Provisional Invoice is the expected amount to be charged, not a completed charge.
Billing Statement
AAfter payment succeeds, the Billing Statement shows Paid, the total amount charged, the charge date, the payment method, and a payment reference. It also shows Amount due: USD 0.00.
The Billing Statement serves as your proof of payment. Striim does not issue a separate receipt.
If payment does not succeed, Striim does not issue a Billing Statement with a Paid status.
Why there are two document versions
The Provisional Invoice and Billing Statement are two versions of the same invoice, not separate charges. They use the same invoice ID and cover the same billing period.
After payment succeeds, the Billing Statement becomes the current version of the invoice and replaces the Provisional Invoice. The earlier Provisional Invoice remains available in the version history.
The final amount on the Billing Statement may differ from the provisional amount because of confirmed tax or billing adjustments. The version history shows these changes. Do not add the totals from the two versions together.
Example: From monthly usage to payment
You have subscribed to the Standard plan, and your Striim for ClickHouse runs in AWS US East (N. Virginia). During one month, your service runs in 100 billable UTC hourly windows. Your pipeline reads 10 million events from PostgreSQL and writes all 10 million events to ClickHouse.
There is no other metered usage in this example.
Metering: Calculate the Striim Credits
Usage item | Calculation | Striim Credits |
|---|---|---|
Standard service compute | 100 service-hours × 4 vCPUs × 0.60 | 240.00 |
PostgreSQL CDC Reader | 10 million events × 0.50 | 5.00 |
ClickHouse Writer | 10 million events × 0.50 | 5.00 |
Total metered usage | 240.00 + 5.00 + 5.00 | 250.00 |
Your total metered usage is 250.00 Striim Credits.
Billing: Calculate the amount charged
The 250.00 Striim Credits convert to USD 250.00 in usage charges.
For this example, assume an applicable tax rate of 8%, with no billing credits or adjustments. The tax rate is illustrative; your actual tax can differ.
Billing item | Calculation | Amount in USD |
|---|---|---|
Usage subtotal | 250.00 Striim Credits × USD 1.00 | $250.00 |
Tax | $250.00 × 8% | $20.00 |
Total charged | $250.00 + $20.00 | $270.00 |
Your credit card is charged USD 270.00: USD 240.00 for compute, USD 10.00 for reading and writing events, and USD 20.00 in tax.
After payment succeeds, the Billing Statement shows Paid, Total charged: USD 270.00, and Amount due: USD 0.00.
