Alerting in Striim

Alerts notify you when a Striim Cloud service or Striim applications (data pipelines) require attention. Striim Cloud provides two levels of alerting: Striim Cloud Console alerts and Service alerts.

Striim Cloud Console alerts

Striim Cloud Console alerts, also known as control-plane alerts, monitor changes to the running status and health status of Striim Cloud services. You can configure an alert rule for all services in an account or for selected services. These alerts are quick to configure and notify you by email. Triggered alerts are also recorded in the Striim Cloud Console alert history.

Account Admins can manage alert rules for all services in the account. Service Admins can manage alert rules for the services they administer. Developers and Viewers can view alert history but cannot manage alert rules.

For more information, see Managing Striim Cloud Console alerts.

Service alerts

Service alerts, also known as data-plane alerts, monitor operational, application, and business conditions within an individual Striim service. Striim Cloud provides three types of service alerts.

  • Smart alerts are predefined, system-wide alerts for common operational conditions, such as application backpressure, high server CPU usage, or an idle source. Only Striim administrators for the service can manage Smart Alerts. For more information, see Managing Smart Alerts.Managing Smart Alerts

  • Custom alerts monitor conditions that you define for selected resources. You can create an alert for a server, Forwarding Agent, connection profile, application, or pipeline component. The Striim administrators for the service and other non-admin users of the service who are enabled to manage alerting can use this feature. However, custom alerts for Striim services and Forwarding Agents remain restricted to administrators. See Creating and managing custom alerts.Managing custom alerts

  • Application-generated alerts monitor data or business conditions defined in application logic, such as a field value exceeding a specified limit. These alerts apply to the data processed by a specific application and are not configured in Alert Manager. See Sending alerts from applications.

Receiving service alert notifications

You can receive service alert notifications from Striim in the Striim web UI, by email, by Slack, or by Microsoft Teams. The administrator must configure the Striim service to send notifications using these channels.
